My library is an archive of longings.

Do stuff. be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or society's kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention. attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.

To paraphrase several sages: Nobody can think and hit someone at the same time.

All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.

Interpretation is the revenge of the intellectual upon art.

I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list.

Never worry about being obsessive. I like obsessive people. Obsessive people make great art.

The camera makes everyone a tourist in other people's reality, and eventually in one's own.

Mozart, Pascal, Boolean algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Balanchine ballets, et al. don’t redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the world. The white race is the cancer of human history.
