For some sick reason, fighting with this woman always ended with her panties in my pocket.

If only he would keep his mouth shut, he'd be perfect. A piece of duct tape would do the trick. I had some in my desk that I'd occasionally pull out and fondle, hoping someday I could put it to good use.

Beauty is only skin-deep, and ugly goes straight to the bone.

I knew everything happened for a reason. I just wished the reason would hurry up and make itself known.

The look in her eyes told me that under any other circumstances, I would either already be naked with her on top of me, or lying in a pool of my own blood on the rug.

Women don't always want to be treated like we're delicate, or rare, or somehow more precious. We want to be wanted. We want sex to be just as raw as you do.

I was starting to see that this wasn't just sex, and it wasn't something just working out of my system. Sex was just the fastest route to the deeper possession that I needed. I was falling in love with her, and falling to fast and hard to easily find any footing.

Why not think that sometimes—just sometimes—you can overcome evil with silence? And let people hear their hatefulness in their own ears, without distraction. Maybe goodness is enough to expose evil for what it really is, sometimes.

Kindness is never wasted.

Sometimes goodness doesn't tell everything it knows. Sometimes goodness waits for the appropriate time and does the best it can with what it has.

Look at me. Look into my eyes." His eyes fixed on hers as they fluttered open.
I'll give you anything. My body, my soul, Take them. Take everything.

I’ve always had a terrible weakness for beautiful but sad things.

Love is doing a kindness for someone else, not expecting to receive anything in return.

You, of all people, deserve a happy ending. Despite everything that happened to you, you aren't bitter. You aren't cold. You've just retreated a little and been shy, and that's okay. If I were a fairy godmother, I would give you your heart's desire in an instant. And I would wipe away your tears and tell you not to cry.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.

 Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession...Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.”

When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die.

By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.

We are not to simply bandage the wounds of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, we are to drive a spoke into the wheel itself.

Jesus himself did not try to convert the two thieves on the cross; he waited until one of them turned to him.

The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.

In normal life we hardly realize how much more we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude. It is so easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements compared with what we owe to the help of others.

Paramahansa Yogananda

Live quietly in the moment and see the beauty of all before you. The future will take care of itself....

Be as simple as you can be; you will be astonished to see how uncomplicated and happy your life can become.

Read a little. Meditate more. Think of God all the time.

Making others happy, through kindness of speech and sincerity of right advice, is a sign of true greatness. To hurt another soul by sarcastic words, looks, or suggestions, is despicable.

You must not let your life run in the ordinary way; do something that nobody else has done, something that will dazzle the world. Show that God's creative principle works in you.

You have come to earth to entertain and to be entertained.

There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is unselfishness, thinking of others first; when you learn to live for others, they will live for you.

You may control a mad elephant;
You may shut the mouth of the bear and the tiger;
Ride the lion and play with the cobra;
By alchemy you may learn your livelihood;
You may wander through the universe incognito;
Make vassals of the gods; be ever youthful;
You may walk in water and live in fire;
But control of the mind is better and more difficult.

Getting lost is just another way of saying 'going exploring.

Beauty—real everlasting beauty—lives not on our faces, but in our attitude and our actions. It lives in what we do for ourselves and for others.

He knew me in all the ways that truly mattered: the shape of my fears, the contours of my dreams.

To dream is to starve doubt, feed hope.

Adventure in life is good; consistency in coffee even better.

Flawed, we're truly interesting, truly memorable, and yes, truly beautiful.

I hated roses. I hated them for being so trite, so clichéd, a default, all-purpose flower that said I love you, I'm sorry, and get well soon. Give me peonies and tulips, orchids or gardenia. Those were flowers with character.

Come on, don't you ever stop and smell the coffee?

There must be a few times in life when you stand at a precipice of a decision. When you know there will forever be a Before and an After...I knew there would be no turning back if I designated this moment as my own Prime Meridian from which everything else would be measured.

Help someone, you earn a friend. Help someone too much, you make an enemy.

Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost.

You can't understand a city without using its public transportation system.

Dancing is creating a sculpture that is visible only for a moment.

In pursuit of happiness, smart people often end up dumbing down themselves.

A stupid friend can hurt you more than a smart enemy.

Happiness is the most tired word in any language.

Intelligence without wisdom brings destruction.

When you fall in love, you land on a cloud.

So you are a vampire.
I most certainly am not. He looked annoyed. That's such a common phrase, such a cliche, and so unflattering. I suppose you believe in werewolves and aliens too. I blame television.

When I first met you, that's what I remember. I looked up at the sky and thought, I'm going to love this person because even the sky looks different.

Darkness does not leave us easily as we would hope.

It's not easy to be Light when you've been Dark. It's almost too much to ask anyone.

Jump or stay in the boat.

He saved the world, but he shattered mine

In the end, the Wheel crushes us all.

I guess this was what it felt like to love someone and feel like you had lost them. Even when you were still holding them in your arms.

All that destiny garbage. Nobody can decide what happens to you. Nobody but you.

Gossip is just a tool to distract people who have nothing better to do from feeling jealous of those few of us still remaining with noble hearts.

He was a mystery to her, and every time she tried to solve him it caused her a little more pain. But when she tired to give him up he pursued her in her thoughts, stronger each time.

The first stab of love is like a sunset, a blaze of color -- oranges, pearly pinks, vibrant purples...

There was no pleasure like being envied on a mass scale.

So this was betrayal. It was like being left alone in the desert at dusk without water or warmth. It left your mouth dry and will broken. It sapped your tears and made you hollow.

I've always believed in savoring the moments. In the end, they are the only things we'll have.

As she always did on any really important day, Penelope Hayes wore red.

I thought: pity the poor in spirit who know neither the enchantment nor the beauty of language.

When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?

People aim for the stars, and they end up like goldfish in a bowl. I wonder if it wouldn't be simpler just to teach children right from the start that life is absurd.

Personally I think that grammar is a way to attain beauty.

If you have but one friend, make sure you choose her well.

I have finally concluded, maybe that's what life is about: there's a lot of despair, but also the odd moment of beauty, where time is no longer the same. It's as if those strains of music created a sort of interlude in time, something suspended, an elsewhere that had come to us, an always within never. Yes, that's it, an always within never.

I find this a fascinating phenomenon: the ability we have to manipulate ourselves so that the foundation of our beliefs is never shaken.

What are you doing to me, you plague of a girl?” he whispered.
“If I’m a plague, then you should keep your distance, unless you plan on being destroyed.” The weapons still in her grasp, she shoved against his chest.
“No.” His hands dropped to her waist. “Destroy me.

My soul sees its equal in you.

Some things exist in our lives for but a brief moment. And we must let them go on to light another sky.

I love you, a thousand times over. And I will never apologize for it.

You honestly expect me to breathe in a world without air?

It was because they were two parts of a whole. He did not belong to her. And she did not belong to him. It was never about belonging to someone. It was about belonging together.

You have a beautiful laugh. Like the promise of tomorrow.

Love is—a shade of what I feel.

There is no one I would rather see the sunrise with than you.
