Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present.

A hug is like a boomerang - you get it back right away.

Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm
stranded in the wrong time
where love is just a lyric in a children's rhyme

God put Santa Claus on earth to remind us that Christmas is 'sposed to be a happy time.

Lovesick, bitter and hardened heart. Aching, waiting for life to star.

Your mind is like this water, my friend. When it is agitated, it becomes difficult to see. But if you allow it to settle, the answer becomes clear.

Books are my friends, my companions. They make me laugh and cry and find meaning in life.

Live in the present, remember the past, and fear not the future, for it doesn't exist and never shall. There is only now.

Books should go where they will be most appreciated, and not sit unread, gathering dust on a forgotten shelf, don't you agree?

Because you can't argue with all the fools in the world. It's easier to let them have their way, then trick them when they're not paying attention.

People have an annoying habit of remembering things they shouldn't.

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe.

Without fear there cannot be courage.

First, let no one rule your mind or body. Take special care that your thoughts remain unfettered... . Give men your ear, but not your heart. Show respect for those in power, but don't follow them blindly. Judge with logic and reason, but comment not. Consider none your superior whatever their rank or station in life. Treat all fairly, or they will seek revenge. Be careful with your money. Hold fast to your beliefs and others will listen.

The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can't.

Cinema is the ultimate pervert art. It doesn't give you what you desire - it tells you how to desire.

The one measure of true love is: you can insult the other.

Words are never 'only words'; they matter because they define the contours of what we can do.

We feel free because we lack the very language to articulate our unfreedom.

When we are shown scenes of starving children in Africa, with a call for us to do something to help them, the underlying ideological message is something like: "Don't think, don't politicize, forget about the true causes of their poverty, just act, contribute money, so that you will not have to think!

The problem for us is not are our desires satisfied or not. The problem is how do we know what we desire.

Love feels like a great misfortune, a monstrous parasite, a permanent state of emergency that ruins all small pleasures.

Because the horror of Communism, Stalinism, is not that bad people do bad things — they always do. It's that good people do horrible things thinking they are doing something great.

Humanity is OK, but 99% of people are boring idiots.

The fact that a cloud from a minor volcanic eruption in Iceland—a small disturbance in the complex mechanism of life on the Earth—can bring to a standstill the aerial traffic over an entire continent is a reminder of how, with all its power to transform nature, humankind remains just another species on the planet Earth.

Michel Foucault

People know what they do; frequently they know why they do what they do; but what they don't know is what what they do does.

I don't feel that it is necessary to know exactly what I am. The main interest in life and work is to become someone else that you were not in the beginning.

Where there is power, there is resistance.

What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or to life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn't everyone's life become a a work of art? Why should the lamp or the house be an art object, but not our life?

Knowledge is not for knowing: knowledge is for cutting.

I'm no prophet. My job is making windows where there were once walls.

I don't write a book so that it will be the final word; I write a book so that other books are possible, not necessarily written by me.

Epictetus

If anyone tells you that a certain person speaks ill of you, do not make excuses about what is said of you but answer, "He was ignorant of my other faults, else he would not have mentioned these alone.

Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.

Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.

There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power or our will.

Man is not worried by real problems so much as by his imagined anxieties about real problems.

If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid.

The key is to keep company only with people who uplift you, whose presence calls forth your best.

It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.

He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at.

Other people's views and troubles can be contagious. Don't sabotage yourself by unwittingly adopting negative, unproductive attitudes through your associations with others.

Belief is the death of intelligence.

The Bible tells us to be like God, and then on page after page it describes God as a mass murderer. This may be the single most important key to the political behavior of Western Civilization.

. . . an optimistic mind-set finds dozens of possible solutions for every problem that the pessimist regards as incurable.

. . . when dogma enters the brain, all intellectual activity ceases.

I don't believe anything, but I have many suspicions.

. . . reality is always plural and mutable.

We look for the Secret - the Philosopher's Stone, the Elixir of the Wise, Supreme Enlightenment, 'God' or whatever...and all the time it is carrying us about...It is the human nervous system itself.

“Is," "is," "is"—the idiocy of the word haunts me. If it were abolished, human thought might begin to make sense. I don't know what anything "is"; I only know how it seems to me at this moment.

In conlusion, there is no conclusion. Things will go on as they always have, getting weirder all the time.

Human beings live in their myths. They only endure their realities.

In order to eat, you have to be hungry. In order to learn, you have to be ignorant. Ignorance is a condition of learning. Pain is a condition of health. Passion is a condition of thought. Death is a condition of life.

Heraclitus

Time is a game played beautifully by children.

No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.”

Even a soul submerged in sleep
is hard at work and helps
make something of the world.

The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become. Your integrity is your destiny - it is the light that guides your way.

The Only Thing That Is Constant Is Change.

To be evenminded
is the greatest virtue.
Wisdom is to speak
the truth and act
in keeping with its nature.

Whoever cannot seek the unforeseen sees nothing for the known way is an impasse.

Much learning does not teach understanding.

People ought to fight
to keep their law
as to defend the citys walls.

Gilles Deleuze

A concept is a brick. It can be used to build a courthouse of reason. Or it can be thrown through the window.

If you're trapped in the dream of the Other, you're fucked.

Writing has nothing to do with meaning. It has to do with landsurveying and cartography, including the mapping of countries yet to come.

Bring something incomprehensible into the world!”

It is not the slumber of reason that engenders monsters, but vigilant and insomniac rationality.

Shit on your whole mortifying, imaginary, and symbolic theater.

The fundamental problem of political philosophy is still precisely the one that Spinoza saw so clearly (and that Wilhelm Reich rediscovered): Why do men fight for their servitude as stubbornly as though it were their salvation?

The shadow escapes from the body like an animal we had been sheltering.

Philosophy, art, and science are not the mental objects of an objectified brain but the three aspects under which the brain becomes subject.

Natalie Babbitt

Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live.

Like all magnificent things, it's very simple.

Everything's a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. But never the same ones. Always coming in new, always growing and changing, and always moving on. That's the way it's supposed to be. That's the way it is

Life's got to be lived, no matter how long or short. You got to take what comes.

You can't have living without dying. So you can't call it living, what we got. We just are, we just be, like rocks beside the road.

And suddenly, she longed for a thunderstorm.

But dying's part of the wheel, right there next to being born. You can't pick out the pieces you like and leave the rest. Being part of the whole thing, that's the blessing.

Everything that happens to you is a reflection of what you believe about yourself. We cannot outperform our level of self-esteem. We cannot draw to ourselves more than we think we are worth.

You can accept or reject the way you are treated by other people, but until you heal the wounds of your past, you will continue to bleed. You can bandage the bleeding with food, with alcohol, with drugs, with work, with cigarettes, with sex, but eventually, it will all ooze through and stain your life. You must find the strength to open the wounds, stick your hands inside, pull out the core of the pain that is holding you in your past, the memories, and make peace with them.

The only way to get what you really want is to let go of what you don't want.

Your willingness to look at your darkness is what empowers you to change.

When you need to be loved, you take love wherever you can find it. When you are desperate to be loved, feel love, know love, you seek out what you think love should look like. When you find love, or what you think love is, you will lie, kill, and steal to keep it. But learning about real love comes from within. It cannot be given. It cannot be taken away. It grows from your ability to re-create within yourself, the essence of loving experiences you have had in your life.

You have set standards for how you want to be treated and what you expect from yourself and for yourself.

One way to eliminate self negating thoughts and behavior is by gaining more understanding through realizing that you cannot force others to see that what you feel is real.

If you want to hear God laugh, tell Him your plans.
