Traffic in Frenetic HCMC (Saigon), Vietnam

Having traveled to Saigon three times, I can tell you that the traffic is frenetic all day long. This is the only city in the world that I have traveled to where I gave up trying to cross the street. I heard stories of those who hired a taxi to cross the street. If you come from Saigon, you just walk and hope the motor-bikes will veer away and miss you. Life is cheap in Vietnam.

Videorative Portrait of Randall Okita

"Painting a Videorative portrait (a generative, narrative and interactive video portrait) starts with collecting personal videos of the person portrayed, tagged by him/her with relevant concepts and descriptions. Then, using a custom developed tool, the artist "paints with meanings" and generates a video portrait, subtitled with generative personal narratives. In the interactive installation version of the work, the viewer can "navigate" through the subject's mind, opening his/her video memories, accessing their thoughts and revealing hidden connections between the meanings, using real time access to Wikipedia to infer related emotional states. These "data visualizations" create new and unexpected interpretations of the portrait."

Plasticity 3D - Short Film

This is pretty cool. It is my first 3D video that I have seen on my computer. It does require the red/cyan 3D glasses, which are easy to get and often free if you pay postage.

"A girl's idyllic world is thrown into chaos when she discovers a city of strange people, in a world made of light paintings."

Between Days

"After leaving their home in Banja Luka, Bosnia because of the Yugoslavian war in the beginning of the 90's, Abdulah Kadenic and his wife Sehaveta ended up in Norway. They lived there for 12 years until Sehavata got so ill that she had to be put in a nursing home. Due to not understanding the language very well and because they never really felt at home in Norway they decided to move back to Bosnia."

"Abdulah now lives in Sarajevo while Sehaveta stays at a nursing home 90 kilometers from there in the city of Travnik. Every week he visits her."

Rêve

"The third collection from MANIAMANIA called 'Rêve' meaning dream in French, is inspired by the late Vali Myers, an Australian artist and vagabond gypsy who roamed around the world as a free spirited dancer in the underworld of a post war Paris, then later becoming an artist and muse to many icons of our time, such as a young Patti Smith and Mariane Faithfull. She drifted the world from Positano to New York's Chelsea Hotel."

A History of the Sky

"This is a year-long time-lapse study of the sky. A camera installed on the roof of the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco captured an image of the sky every 10 secobnds. From these images, I created a mosaic of time-lapse movies, each showing a single day. The days are arranged in chronological order. My intent was to reveal the patterns of light and weather over the course of a year."

Rosa

"ROSA is an epic sci-fi short film that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where all natural life has disappeared. From the destruction awakes Rosa, a cyborg deployed from the Kernel project, mankind’s last attempt to restore the earth’s ecosystem. Rosa will soon learn that she is not the only entity that has awakened and must fight for her survival."

"The short-film was created entirely by young comic-artist Jesús Orellana with no budget during a single year. Since it's world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, ROSA has been an official selection at film festivals around the world such as Screamfest, Toronto After Dark, Anima Mundi or Los Angeles Shorts Film Festival. In October ROSA was screened at the opening night of the Sitges International Film Festival, considered the world's best festival specialized in genre films. Following the succesful festival run, the short film has attracted the attention of the major talent-agencies and Hollywood producers. Currently ROSA is in development to be a live-action motion picture."

Burning Man: Rites of passage - Day

This is one of two videos on a festival called Burning Man. I had no idea what this is; thus, I Googled it and discovered the following:

"Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada's Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. Burning Man is also an ever-expanding year-round culture based on the Ten Principles."
