Belle Aurora

Monsters don't always lurk in the shadows. Sometimes they hide in plain sight.

Books... I can’t live without books. To me, a book is better than any movie. All I need is a good book, my imagination, and I am set free. I’m in literature heaven.

Can't help who you fall in love with, princess.

I don't want a knight in shining armor.
I don't want a knight in scuffed armor.
I want his helmet to have dents. I want my knight to be real, and dark and savage. I want my knight to be a survivor. Someone who's been tested and got through his trails. Not some pussy in gleaming metal

We're all addicted to something that takes away the pain.

Not everyone can be a fairy-tale hero.” He pauses a moment, then adds, “The world needs villains too.

Who were you before people started telling you who you should be?

Dejan Stojanovic

My feelings are too loud for words and too shy for the world.

To hide feelings when you are near crying is the secret of dignity.

The most complicated skill is to be simple.

It is beautiful to express love and even more beautiful to feel it.

Fly without wings;
Dream with open eyes;
See in darkness.

I am the shore and the ocean, awaiting myself on both sides.

For a moment at least, be a smile on someone else’s face.

Those who hate rain hate life.

Wherever I go, I run into myself.”

Too often, feelings arrive too soon, waiting for thoughts that often come too late.

Gabriel García Márquez II

What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.

No medicine cures what happiness cannot.

It's enough for me to be sure that you and I exist at this moment.

He allowed himself to be swayed by his conviction that human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but that life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.

It is not true that people stop pursuing dreams because they grow old, they grow old because they stop pursuing dreams.

Perhaps this is what the stories meant when they called somebody heartsick. Your heart and your stomach and your whole insides felt empty and hollow and aching.

There is always something left to love.

Nobody deserves your tears, but whoever deserves them will not make you cry.

She would defend herself, saying that love, no matter what else it might be, was a natural talent. She would say: You are either born knowing how, or you never know.

He was still too young to know that the heart's memory eliminates the bad and magnifies the good, and that thanks to this artifice we manage to endure the burden of the past.

Mo Yan

Finally, she mused that human existence is as brief as the life of autumn grass, so what was there to fear from taking chances with your life?

People who are strangers to liquor are incapable of talking about literature.

Where there's life, death is inevitable. Dying's easy; it's living that's hard. The harder it gets, the stronger the will to live. And the greater the fear of death, the greater the struggle to keep on living.

A writer writes what he knows, in ways that are natural to him.

I sometimes think that there is a link between the decline in humanity and the increase in prosperity and comfort. Property and comfort are what people seek, but the costs to character are often terrifying.

The act of giving voice to this spiritual suffering is, in my view, the sacred duty of the writer.

Annie Dillard

She read books as one would breathe air, to fill up and live.

One of the few things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time...give it, give it all, give it now.

Like any child, I slid into myself perfectly fitted, as a diver meets her reflection in a pool. Her fingertips enter the fingertips on the water, her wrists slide up her arms. The diver wraps herself in her reflection wholly, sealing it at the toes, and wears it as she climbs rising from the pool, and ever after.

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.

You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.

Spend the afternoon, you can't take it with you.

I had been my whole life a bell, and never knew it until at that moment I was lifted and struck.

Nothing moves a woman so deeply as the boyhood of the man she loves.

Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Dylan Moran

You’re not really an adult at all. You’re just a tall child holding a beer, having a conversation you don’t understand.

Don't do it! Stay away from your potential. You'll mess it up, it's potential, leave it. Anyway, it's like your bank balance - you always have a lot less than you think.

People will kill you. Over time. They will shave out every last morsel of fun in you with little, harmless sounding phrases that people uses every day, like: 'Be realistic!'

Oh how I hate you. I hate you so much it gives me energy. I have to get up early in the morning just to hate you, because there's not enough time in the day! Please GO AWAY!

I'm a quitter. I come from a long line of quitters. It's amazing I'm here at all.

I don't do drugs. If I want a rush I just stand up when I'm not expecting it.

I don't know what I want but I know that I want it now.

[Adulthood feels like] walking around in the desert with a bag over your head, being bumped into by people who rob you as they bore you.

Molière II

Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.

It is a wonderful seasoning of all enjoyments to think of those we love.

Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for love, and then for a few close friends, and then for money.

The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.

It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable.

Betrayed and wronged in everything,
I’ll flee this bitter world where vice is king,
And seek some spot unpeopled and apart
Where I’ll be free to have an honest heart

A learned fool is more a fool than an ignorant fool.

Life is a tragedy to those who feel and a comedy to those who think.

It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right.”

My hate is general, I detest all men;
Some because they are wicked and do evil,
Others because they tolerate the wicked,
Refusing them the active vigorous scorn
Which vice should stimulate in virtuous minds.

We die only once, and for such a long time.

Hypocrisy is a fashionable vice, and all fashionable vices pass for virtue.

Graham Chapman

I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.

You see, I don't belive that libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, that has been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians.

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

We are no longer the knights who say Ni! We are now the knights who say ekki-ekki-ekki-pitang-zoom-boing!

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise, fear and surprise; two chief weapons, fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency! Er, among our chief weapons are: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, and near fanatical devotion to the Pope! Um, I'll come in again...

When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.

A murderer is only an extroverted suicide.

An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a definite proposition... A contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says."
No, it's not...

In 1945, peace broke out. It was the end of the Joke. Joke warfare was banned at a special session of the Geneva Convention, and in 1950 the last remaining copy of the joke was laid to rest here in the Berkshire countryside, never to be told again.

Mo Willems

If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave.

A book, being a physical object, engenders a certain respect that zipping electrons cannot. Because you cannot turn a book off, because you have to hold it in your hands, because a book sits there, waiting for you, whether you think you want it or not, because of all these things, a book is a friend. It’s not just the content, but the physical being of a book that is there for you always and unconditionally.

The difference between children and adults is that they're shorter - not dumber.

My favorite book is my next one. I’m always hoping to make my next book my best one.

The first bowl of chocolate pudding was too hot, but Goldilocks ate it all anyway because, hey, it's chocolate pudding, right?

Carlos Ruiz Zafón

Books are mirrors: you only see in them what you already have inside you.

Fools talk, cowards are silent, wise men listen.

Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens.

People tend to complicate their own lives, as if living weren't already complicated enough.

The moment you stop to think about whether you love someone, you've already stopped loving that person forever.

Memories are worse than bullets.

Destiny is usually just around the corner. Like a thief, a hooker, or a lottery vendor: its three most common personifications. But what destiny does not do is home visits. You have to go for it.

Making money isn't hard in itself... What's hard is to earn it doing something worth devoting one's life to.

Don't be afraid of being scared. To be afraid is a sign of common sense. Only complete idiots are not afraid of anything.
