Omar Khayyám

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.

Drink wine. This is life eternal. This is all that youth will give you. It is the season for wine, roses and drunken friends. Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life.

As far as you can avoid it, do not give grief to anyone. Never inflict your rage on another. If you hope for eternal rest, feel the pain yourself; but don’t hurt others.

Your hand can seize today, but not tomorrow; and thoughts of your tomorrow are nothing but desire. Don’t waste this breath, if your heart isn’t crazy, since "the rest of your life" won’t last forever.

Dead yesterdays and unborn tomorrows, why fret about it, if today be sweet.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it

To wisely live your life, you don't need to know much
Just remember two main rules for the beginning:
You better starve, than eat whatever
And better be alone, than with whoever.

I'm just the librarian. I can only give you the books. I can't give you the answers.

The right thing and the easy thing are never the same.

You're so full of crap, you could pass for a toilet.

I never loved you any more than I do, right this second. And I'll never love you any less than I do, right this second.

Mortals. I envy you. You think you can change things. Stop the universe. Undo what was done long before you came along. You are such beautiful creatures." He was talking to me, but it didn't feel like he was talking about me anymore. "I apologize for the intrusion. I'll leave you to your sleep.

In the battle that is philosophy all the techniques of war, including looting and camouflage, are permissible.

Philosophy is, in the last instance, class struggle in the field of theory.

One of the goals of philosophy is wage theoretical battle. That is why we can say that every thesis is always, by its very nature, an antithesis. A thesis is only ever put forward in opposition to another thesis, or in defence of a new one.”

Without claiming to be exhaustive, I maintain that every philosophy reproduces within itself, in one way or another, the conflict in which it finds itself compromised and caught up in the outside world.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating! So what! We are interested in the mechanism that ensures that it really is a pudding we are eating and not a poached baby elephant, though we think we are eating our daily pudding!

There is no such thing as an innocent reading, we must ask what reading we are guilty of.

Everything that happens in philosophy has, in the last instance, not only political consequences in theory, but also political consequences in politics: in the political class struggle.

If you reach for the stars, you just might land on a decently sized hill.

To a happy war!' laughter echoed with all the insane glee of an army of psychopaths.

But leave us some magic in the world. Leave us some mystery to enjoy.

A conflagration always made such a nice backdrop to a battle. Fire made everything so much more joyously apocalyptic.

You are about to enter the realms of human beings. Be prepared for cruelty and kindness, for friendship and hatred. People are made of all possibilities and conditions.

And exactly how does a miserable face help the war effort?" he asked sharply, his mood beginning to change. "Will a frown bring back the dead or fortify a town? If I allow myself to laugh in the face of misery, I rest my mind from the stress of it all, and then it'll work the better for you and your war. And if I'm really to be one of your advisers, Your Majesty, accept this piece of advise: Take happiness where and when you find it, because there is going to be precious little of it in the next few months!

I love you the way a drowning man loves air. And it would destroy me to have you just a little.

I think sometimes when we find love we pretend it away, or ignore it, or tell ourselves we’re imagining it. Because it is the most painful kind of hope there is.

Honor from death,” I snap, “is a myth. Invented by the war torn to make sense of the horrific. If we die, it will be so that others may live. Truly honorable death, the only honorable death, is one that enables life.

I know you hate me. But don't let that make you stupid.

From the mouths of the innocents flows truth.

I don’t care if it’s Twilight or Fifty Shades or War and Peace - Never let someone make you ashamed of what you love to read!

A word is the only thing in the world made more powerful by absence than existence.

Given a choice between my life and yours, I will choose mine. Every time. Without hesitation.

Only years of practice will teach you the mysteries and bold certainty of a real gardener, who treads at random, yet tramples on nothing.

Everyone has the best of feelings towards mankind in general, but not towards the individual man. We'll kill men, but we want to save mankind. And that isn't right, your Reverence. The world will be an evil place as long as people don't believe in other people

We're two, two for everything, for love, life, for a fight and pain, for hours of happiness. Two for wins and losses, for life and for death - TWO!

It suddenly occurred to me that every move on the chessboard is old and has been played by somebody at some time. Maybe our own history has been played out by somebody at some time, and we just move our pieces about in the same moves to strike in the same way as people have always done.

Besides, people never regard anything that serves and benefits them as mysterious; only the things which damage or threaten them are mysterious.

When we feel weak, we drop our heads on the shoulders of others. Don't get mad when someone does that. Be honored. For that person trusted you enough to, even if subtly, ask you for help.

Even in times of trauma, we try to maintain a sense of normality until we no longer can. That, my friends, is called surviving. Not healing. We never become whole again ... we are survivors. If you are here today... you are a survivor. But those of us who have made it thru hell and are still standing? We bare a different name: warriors.

Stand up and be counted, or sit your ass in the corner and color.

My integrity refuses to be altered to fit in with what I'm expected or intimidated to believe.

The mob mentality may keep you safe, but your soul will pay for it in the end.

The most disgusting human trait is bias, because it typically leads to propaganda, hate and violence.

A weapon does not decide whether or not to kill. A weapon is a manifestation of a decision that has already been made.

You don't choose what to believe. Belief chooses you.

Do you know the difference between an optimist and a pessimist? A pessimist says ‘Oh dear, things can’t possibly get any worse.’ And an optimist says, ‘Don’t be so sad. Things can always get worse.

It's a rare gift to understand that your life is wondrous, and that it won't last forever.

Because civilization isn't a thing that you build and then there it is, you have it forever. It needs to be built constantly, recreated daily. It vanishes far more quickly than he ever would have thought possible. And if he wishes to live, he must do what he can to prevent the world he wants to live in from fading away. As long as there's war, life is a preventative measure.”

This is how....life happens. One small thing at a time. A series of inconsequential junctions, any or none of which can lead to salvation or disaster. There are no grand moments where a person does or does not perform the act that defines their humanity. There are only moments that appear, briefly, to be this way.

For Harry Potter I have all the time in the world.

You can smile when your heart is breaking because you're a woman.

If it means something, take it to heart. If it means nothing, it's nothing. Let it go.

He promised her that he would give her everything, everything she wanted, as men in love always do. And she trusted him despite herself, as women in love always do.

I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can't do anything but think about him. At night I dream of him, all day I wait to see him, and when I do see him my heart turns over and I think I will faint with desire.

A man will always promise to do more than he can do to a woman he cannot understand.

I would know you anywhere for my true love. Whoever I was and whoever you were, I would know you at once for my true love

When a woman thinks her husband is a fool, her marriage is over. They may part in one year or ten; they may live together until death. But if she thinks he is a fool, she will not love him again.

Have you ever wondered what a human life is worth? That morning, my brother's was worth a pocket watch.

Sometimes there is such beauty in awkwardness.

We'd been trying to touch the sky from the bottom of the ocean.

Krasivaya. It means beautiful, but with strength. Unique.

I wept because i had no shoes,
until i met a man who had no feet.

Was it harder to die, or harder to be the one who survived?

Good men are often more practical than pretty " said Mother. "Andrius just happens to be both."

Sometimes kindness can be delivered in a clumsy way.

Sometimes there is such beauty in awkwardness. There's love and emotion trying to express itself, but at the time, it just ends up being awkward.

Whether love of friend, love of country, love of God, or even love of enemy—love reveals to us the truly miraculous nature of the human spirit.
